GlobalGiving helps charities attract new donors
18 September 2008
New fundraising website GlobalGiving is helping UK charities raise cash for international projects.
Launched earlier this year by two former World Bank employees, Globalgiving.co.uk was set up to encourage more UK donors to support international charity projects.
Describing itself as a 'kind of eBay for international charitable giving', GlobalGiving showcases different charity schemes across the world.
After having read a detailed description, visitors to the website can then add selected items such as windows, child security gates and even bricks to their 'giving cart', knowing exactly where their gift is going.
Charities benefiting from donations are required to update details so that their supports can see the difference that their generosity has made.
Over 70 charities have signed up to GlobalGiving this year, covering every continent and countries as varied as Myanmar, Armenia, Haiti and Burundi.
Well known UK charities who are benefiting from the website include Help the Aged and Save the Children.
GlobalGiving takes a cut of 10 per cent from all donations to fund its running costs. But visitors are also able to donate 28 per cent on top of their donation in gift aid tax.
