AdSense adverts must be checked by publishers

Google must take responsibility for inappropriately placed adverts generated by its AdSense system, out-law.com reported last week (24 September).
Google's automated advert system was criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for the way in which adverts are generated by AdSense according to keywords displayed on a web page.
The ASA says that an advert's suitability is the responsibility of the publisher, regardless of how it was selected and that AdSense publicity is not exempt from this standard.

A spokesperson for the ASA said: If ads are generated automatically there should be checks in place, people need to be responsible for the ads they show and they need to meet the requirements of the Code.
