Oxfam's New Price Comparison Site Helps to Raise Money

Oxfam's newest website, CompareForGood.com, is entering the price comparison market in order to raise money for its third sector efforts. The industry, headed by sites such as MoneySupermarket.com, GoCompare.com, CompareThe Market.com and Confused.com, is said to be raking in £700,000,000 to £1 billion per year. Oxfam promises to use two-thirds of its proceeds from the site for its humanitarian projects world-wide.

Oxfam's Director of Fundraising, Cathy Ferrier, announced, We're always looking for innovative ways to raise money for our lifesaving work, especially during difficult economic times when the public find it harder to spare money for charity. This website means people can support Oxfam even when money is tight.

Joan Collins helped launch the site on 17 February, saying, Compare for Good is a win-win opportunity for people to save themselves money while raising money for charity. You need only to look at disasters like Haiti to realise how much help charities need on an on-going basis.

Customers of CompareForGood can save money on everything from utilities to insurance, and they can feel confident that they are helping to raise money for Oxfam through commissions it will receive from BeatThatQuote.com, which is running the price comparison service for them.

The brains behind the idea, entrepreneur Ivan Massow, said, The thing about price comparison websites is that they're all fundamentally the same – no price comparison website tells you they're the cheapest. You, the consumer, will go to the price comparison site that suits your style. A lot of charities tend to have affiliated deals on financial products, such as credit cards – the RSPCA credit card represents 11% of credit card distributors. I thought if I could get 11% of that market for charity that would be a phenomenal amount of money.
