World Multiple Sclerosis Day Online Campaign

21 May 2010

May 26 is World MS Day, and worldmsday.org is the international site that hopes to attract 100,000 people to pledge support for the fight against multiple sclerosis.

The site is offered in ten languages and features the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation’s (MSIF) global campaign film. Social media feeds for Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, to name only a few, are available along with other resources for fundraisers around the world. It looks and feels global, and visitors become part of a worldwide effort.

Global sites such as worldmsday.org can be a valuable tool to help local organisations publicise and build support for their causes. Visitors can donate, review case studies, take surveys and find and connect with their local organisation.

MSIF’s goal in developing the site is to raise awareness about MS and inspire solidarity around the globe, from its own member societies to individual donors, other third sector groups, government agencies and businesses worldwide. They hope to reach as many people as possible.

Ayesha Ali, MSIF’s campaigns and communications director told UK’s Third Sector, Online is often the first place people go for information. The site has enabled us to pull in media from other platforms such as Google Maps and Flickr, which makes it more flexible for the future. She reports that so far 20% of visitors have signed up to support the campaign.
