Happy young woman using accessible CMS.

Accessible CMS

There are two ways of creating web pages: static (i.e. pages which can't easily be changed) or dynamic. For the latter to work, you need a piece of software known as a Content Management System (CMS). Your end users will never see this, but as the site manager, it will be your work space, so it has to be easy to use, whilst having all the functionality you require.

You keep the keys to your website

By using a CMS, you are not dependent on us every time you need to make a content change to your website - which saves a lot of time and money in the long run. For this to work, though, a CMS has to be easy to learn and efficient to use without needing to know a lot of HTML, CSS and other code. That is where Drupal comes in.

At Raspberry Frog, we've chosen to use the Drupal content management system, which has a series of powerful features: it supports multiple users which can be configurable - so your HR department can post job vacancies, your PR team can post the latest press releases, and so on. In addition, it enables you to pre-publish content: you can set a press release to go live on the site at 6am, without anyone needing to be there to press the button when the time comes.

Why we use Drupal?

Beyond being open-source, well-supported, free, flexible and secure, Drupal is at the cutting edge of CMS: it has powerful community and social functionality, is SEO-friendly, and comes with great search functionality out of the box. At its core, the Drupal CMS is built around sound web standards, and will help you keep your site accessible, by adding the appropriate code to images, acronyms, links, and forms, to help ensure your less-abled users aren't left out.

Because Drupal does a lot of the under the bonnet work for us, we can concentrate on developing a site which looks great and performs the way you want, instead of worrying about a lot of functionality your users will never see anyway.

If it's good enough for Obama...

In 2009, the White House ditched the proprietary content management system that had been in place since the days of the Bush Administration in favor of the latest version of Drupal. Click here to view the article WhiteHouse.Gov goes Drupal.

Training is key

In addition to building on a powerful CMS, we ensure that the templates (i.e. the look and feel of each page) are manually tested for Level AA Conformance to WCAG 2.0.

Once we're happy we are starting on solid ground, we train your staff to ensure that good practice is used when publishing web content, to ensure that all content added remains at the quality level you have grown to expect from your site! We can also offer regular support and we offer monthly reviews/feedback on accessibility levels of newly added content.

Did You Know?

Password masking

According to usability guru, Jakob Nielsen, it's bad for usability when users type in a password and all they get is a row of bullets. Typically, masking passwords doesn't really increase security, but it can cost you business due to login failures.
